Rachel's Crafty Folder

for my crafty moments

49 years….. 25/01/2012

Good Evening All

Tomorrow, my parents will have been married for 49 years 😮

According to a variety of websites, the modern meaning of 49 years of wedded bliss is luxury, so this card is meant to give that impression!

I have used pearlescant cardstock throughout which gives it that shimmer effect.  The base layer has been pierced around the edges and then there are two layers of matting.  I’ve then used two nesties to cut the lattice square with an aperture in which to place the verse.  The leaves are also spellbinder dies and the flowers are the Martha Stewart waterlily punch.  The key is a Tim Holtz die which I’ve then embossed with his distress embossing powders, giving it that rusty look.  All finished off with a cream ribbon bow.

Hopefully they’ll like it, and I hope you do too.

Back again soon

cascading card workshop 22/01/2012

Filed under: Cascading Card — rachelscraftyfolder @ 11:02 am

Good Morning All

So, on Thursday evening , just gone, my Mum, our friend Kay and myself attended a workshop at Sonia’s to make a cascading card.  Here are a couple of piccies showing my efforts.

The base of the card itself is actually quite straightforward but it comes to life as you decorate and embellish it.  It’s very effective and we were all very pleased with our cards at the end of the evening.

You may have seen this card in Papercraft Inspirations, as Sonia was “published” this month with this project, in the masterclass section of the magazine.  As you can imagine, she is thrilled to bits and we are thrilled for her.

You can read all about it over on her blog Sonia’s Crafty Patch.

Sonia does some great workshops, where we have a good old chin wag and a giggle, as well as making some cards and learning stuff! Highly recommended 🙂

Anyway that’s it for the moment

Good Luck 18/01/2012

Good Evening All,

Well this evening I have produced this card.  One of our colleagues is leaving us soon and I thought it would be nice to make her a card to wish her well with her future.

I have used the Mojo Monday Challenge 224 sketch for my basic layout.  The green card and paper are from my stash and were chosen because they tied in nicely with the Forever Friends topper.

I was hoping to actually enter the challenge, but I don’t seem to have quite mastered that process yet – will seek some help!

Anyway that’s all for now

all “loved” up 15/01/2012

Evening All

The title of my post is purely about the card design and not my love life – unfortunately!

The layout of this valentines card has been taken from the Mojo Monday Challenge 223.

I have used stampin’ up card and some very old papers from my stash – some of the first I ever bought I think!

The hearts have been die cut and embossed using Spellbinder dies, which I have also drawn around to create a faux heart just to make them stand out more.

Short and sweet

all “tangled” up! 11/01/2012

Filed under: Tent Card — rachelscraftyfolder @ 8:57 pm

Good Evening All

Well tonight I have attached two pictures of a card that I made in December for one of my work colleagues.  Her daughter was having a party with a “Tangled” theme and she couldn’t find a birthday card for a 4 year old with Rapunzel on it.

I have to say I was quite chuffed with how this actually finished up.  It’s made up as a tent card and the idea is that Rapunzel is sitting in her tower waiting for her prince!

Getting hold of an decent image was a bit tricky, but I got there in the end.  The image is coloured with promarkers and then mounted onto silver mirri card and it dangles in the aperture.  I stamped the brickwork and the foliage onto some Tim Holtz idea-ology paper.  The card itself is 8′ x 8′.

Anyway, got to go now, but I’ll be back again soon

crop day challenge 08/01/2012

Filed under: Crop Days — rachelscraftyfolder @ 10:19 pm

Evening All,

Well today was crop day.  Once a month, my Mum, my friend Kay and myself meet at my house and endeavour to make some cards.  Sometimes we have a productive day and sometimes we don’t!  This year we have decided to take turns setting ourselves a challenge each month, to try and stretch our creativity.

I set the guidelines this month, with a colour scheme of blue and brown and the sketch from Mojo Monday Challenge 222, and this is eventually what I came up with.

I find it really interesting to see the different cards that are produced despite all using the same basic design.

Anyway that’s it for tonight – tired now!

first proper post 04/01/2012

Filed under: Challenges — rachelscraftyfolder @ 9:11 pm

So here goes, my first proper post with a picture – yippee!

I have followed the sketch from Mojo Monday – challenge 222.

The motorcycle is a stamp from “Stampin’ Up!”, which I’ve coloured in with Promarkers and inked around the edges with some chalk.  The background  paper is one from my ever increasing stash – HOTP I think!  And then the cogs are nesties.

I hope it shows up OK?  I am sure I’ll get the hang of this blogging as we go along!

Welcome to my blog.  It may take me a while to get myself organised as this is all new to me.

So, we’ll just start with “Happy New Year” and I’ll be back once I’ve worked out what to do!

Wish me luck!
